Auto-rickshaws prowl the streets in some areas, actively soliciting fares. Overcharging is common, but if you've got several kilometers to cover, it may be worthwhile to hire one for a couple of extra rupees to avoid walking in the sun.

By Bicycle

The streets and sidewalks of Pondicherry are immaculate and ideal for exploration by bike. You can rent a bike (Rs. 5/10¢ per hour; Rs. 20-Rs 40 per day) from Le Café on Beach Road, or from the Pondicherry Tourism Information Centre. Ask about hiring the services of a guide who can cycle along with you.

By Boat

Offshore cruises are available through the Tourism Information Counter where you can charter a boat for Rs. 1,200 an hour.
