Srirangapatna (Srirangapattinam) renowned for its seemingly impregnable fort, associated with the great ruler Tipu Sultan, is situated at the western end of an oval shaped island formed by the two branches of the Cauvery, in Mandya district of Karnataka. It is 15 km north-east of Mysore and 120 km to the south-west of Bangalore.
Sirangapattinam can be reached by road or train from nearby Mysore or Bangalore (120 Kms). The roads are pretty good an it'll take you about 2 hours drive from Bangalore to get here.

The history of Srirangapatna commences from the 9th century A.D. as revealed in an inscription of a Ganga chieftain Tirumalaiah, the founder of the temple of Sriranganatha.
Timmanna, one of the descendants of Hebbars, built the fort at Shrirangapatna with the permission of Devaraya, the Vijayanagar king in early fifteenth century.
