Shivanasamudram Waterfalls Mandya

Shivanasamudram or Shivana Samudra is a scenic waterfall destination in Mandya in Karnataka State, India.

What is it famous for

The Kaveri River splits here into two branches and each branch cascades down rocky cliffs. The more popularly viewed cascade is known as Gaganachukki and the other cascade is known as Bharachukki.

These spectacular waterfalls are surrounded by hill forests of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. One of Asia's first hydro-electric power stations, still functional, is located at the waterfall.

The upstream is particularly awe inspiring after the monsoons when the Kaveri River is full.

Bharachukki Falls

The Bharachukki is about a kilometer away from the Dargah. Bharachukki has a wider cascading edge. One section resembles a 'U' section, like the Niagara Falls. It also has nice graceful cascade along the side.

There are much fewer visitors to this falls and there is no viewing gallery here.

How to reach Shivanasamudram

From Bangalore, Sivanasamudram is about 120 Kms and 60 Kms from Mysore. You can take the Mysore Road and take a left at Maddur and go further to reach Shivanasamudra.

From Kanakapura road, keep driving for about 120 Kms and you will see signs of it on the highway.

Mysore Road is much better until you exit the highway. Kanakapura road is much more scenic to drive with winding roads. Best enjoyed on a bike or car trip.
