Ross and Smith Islands

Ross and Smith Islands (Smith and Ross) are about 25 minutes by ferry from Diglipur in North Andaman Islands (Andaman & Nicobar). Though these are commonly referred to as twin islands, they are actually a single island sperated by a sandy stretch which makes it appear like two seperate islands.

You will need permission from the Forest officer to enter these islands. The forest officer can be found at the Aerial bay Jetty in Diglipur. There are ferries available from here to Ross & Smith Islands.

There is a lagoon side and a sea side to the beach.  If you like the waves go to the other side or if you prefer calmer waters stay on the lagoon side. Ross and Smith, the twin islands joined by a bewitching sand bar, is 30 minutes away from Aerial bay jetty or Kalipur water sports centre. Directorate of Tourism offers island camping at Smith island during the tourist season.

One who prefers to be away from the hustle and humdrum of urban life must come here to enjoy unhurried holidays. Saddle peak is popular for trekking/nature trail through the evergreen rain forest. Kalighat is connected by daily two boat services from Mayabunder. Port Blair - Diglipur (Aerial bay jetty) boat services are available twice a week.
