Mysore is 140 Kms from Bangalore (Bengaluru) (capital of Karnataka) and is well connected by rail and road. By road, the journey time is less than 3 hours. Travel is comfortable as four-lane National Highway is connecting both the cities. Nearest airport is Bangalore. Mysore is well connected by railways to Bangalore, Tanjore, Mumbai, Chennai, Hassan, Arasikere etc.
The best way to travel to Mysore is to first arrive in Bangalore (if you are coming in from a different city out of Karnataka) and then hire a cab to reach here. You can also take regular buses and trains. The advantage is you can also see so many other sights between Bangalore and Mysore.
Mysore Junction is the city's main station, and there are daily trains plying the route between Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, Thanjavur as well as smaller and lesser known Indian cities.
There are many trains on a daily basis operating between Mysore and Bangalore. Tippu Express, Chamundi Express, Thanjavur Express and the Mysore Express (from Mayiladuthurai). These trains take about 3 hours to reach Mysuru.
If you see more comfort and speed, the Shatabdi Express plying from Chennai to Mysore (which stops at Bangalore), will take you to Mysore in 2 hours.
The price of a ticket to Mysore (from Bangalore) on a regular train will cost you about Rs 50 and on the Shatabdi Express will cost you about Rs 300.

The nearest domestic and international airport is Bangalore airport (140km from Mysore). There are plans to upgrade Mysore Airport by the Karnataka Government, but the construction and completion dates are not yet final.
Mysore has two major bus stands. All KSRTC buses arrive and depart from the Central bus stand (aka sub-urb bus stand), while local buses use the City bus stand.
Buses run every 5 minutes on the Bangalore route, and there is a choice of both A/C and non-A/C vehicles. During the weekends, these buses are often full, so it is advisable to reserve a seat in advance.
The KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) buses are very comfortable, especially the Volvo (Luxury) buses. A one-way ticket on this bus from Bangalore to Mysore costs 190 Indian Rupees.
Mysore is approximately 140 kms from Bangalore, and there is a 4 lane highway (2 lanes in each direction) connecting the 2 cities. Though the road is good, you'll have to drive with caution as you may encounter traffic barricades near towns on the way. Traffic gets heavy during the weekends. Leave early from Bangalore to enjoy a pleasant drive.
Getting around in Mysore is cheaper than most Indian cities. You can hire auto-rickshaws which are around every busy corner or a taxi. Ensure that they ply with their meter switched on or fix up a price upfront to avoid hassles later on. Price is 7.00 Rs per KM, with a minimum fare of Rs. 14.00
At the railway station go straight to the pre-paid auto rickshaw counter and tell them your destination (you have to pay a cheap one rupee fee for this service).
They will give you a slip with the fare printed along with the destination and auto rickshaw registration number. When you arrive at the destination you just pay what is printed on the slip given to you in advance.
Private taxi / cab - Are the best choice in case you want to tour the city all day or visit nearby places like Srirangapatna. It costs about Rs 6 - 7 per kilometer.
