Reaching Lakshadweep

The Lakshadweep group of Islands is located around 400 kilometers off of the coast of Kerala in the Arabian Sea. Kochi (Cochin), in Kerala, is the nearest most accessible city to Lakshadweep.

Air India operates flights between Agatti Island and Kochi six days a week. Kingfisher Airlines has flights from Bangalore and Kochi to Agatti Islands. Perhaps the best way to travel to Lakshadweep is through a ship that operates between Kochi and Agatti.

By Air

Cochin International Airport links Lakshadweep with the mainland. Cochin is well connected by air to other important cities of India and foreign destinations.  Agatti is the only airport in Lakshadweep.

Helicopter transfer is available from Agatti to Anagrams Island Resort during monsoon and to Kavaratti through out the year.

The flight from Cochin (Kochi) to Agatti takes approximately one hour thirty minutes. Flights operate six days a week.  Kingfisher Airlines, has commenced flights to and from Agatti. Kingfisher connects Kochi and Bangalore to Agatti. Air India (Indian Airlines), the state owned carrier, serves Agatti and connects to Kochi. 

 By Sea / Ship

MV Bharat Seema ready for LakshadweepMV Bharat Seema ready for LakshadweepFour passenger ships- MV Tippu Sultan, MV Bharat Seema, MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy operate between Cochin and Lakshadweep. The passage takes between 14 to 20 hours.

The ships offer different classes of accommodation. The ships have cafeteria and snack bars, entertainment lounge, video shows and upper-deck walkway.  

A doctor is available on call on board these ships. The ship services do not operate during Monsoons which is between May to October. The ship journey takes anywhere between 15 to 20 hours from Cochin.

Local Transport / Getting Around

The other islands are linked by a helicopter or boat service to get around from one island to another. Once on an island, there aren't too many options. You can travel by foot or hire a bicycle.
