There are several ways to reach BR hills either from Mysore or Bangalore (Bengaluru).
If you are starting from Mysore, you have three route options:
One, you can travel towards Thirumakudalu Narasipur (T.Narasipur or T.N.Pur) 30Kms from Mysore. Continue the journey towards Santhemaralli and Yelandur. Santhemaralli is 21Kms from T.Narsipura and Yelandur is 6 Kms from Santhemaralli. From Yelandur, B.R.Hills is 24Kms. There is a forest check post just before the starting point of the hill. The total distance you may have to cover is 80 Kms from Mysore.
Second alternative route from Mysore is to continue traveling towards Nanjangud and Chamarajanagar. In this route, again, there are two ways to reach B.R.Hills. After reaching Nanjangud (22 Kms from Mysore), proceed towards Chamarajanagar.After 15 Kms from Nanjangud, you will reach a place called Kaulande. After Kaulande, take left turn to proceed towards Santhemaralli and Yelandur. Santhemaralli is 15Kms from Kaulande and from Santhemaralli; Yelandur is 6 Kms. Proceed towards B.R.Hills (24Kms from Yelandur). You need to cover totally around 100 Kms from Mysore in this route.
The third alternative in this route is to continue your journey from Nanjangud to Chamarajanagar (35 Kms from Nanjangud). From Chamarajanagar, proceed towards B.R.Hills. The distance of B.R.Hills is 45 Kms from Chamarajanagar. This route is around 80 Kms from Mysore.
People visiting only B.R.Hills from Mysore, go through Yelandur during onward journey and return through Chamarajanagar. You can enjoy the passing serene greenery and wonderful scenes as you will pass through two different routes.
People starting from Bangalore (Bengaluru) should take the Mysore Road up to Maddur. Thereafter you have to take a left turn to move towards Malavalli. If you miss this turn, you will land in Mysore. After traveling 24 Kms from Maddur you will reach Malavalli.
From Malavalli, proceed towards Kollegal which is 35 Kms from Malavalli. From Kollegal, take the road towards Yelandur which is 22 Kms. From Yelandur, B.R.Hills is 24 Kms. The distance between Bangalore (Bengaluru) and B.R.Hills is nearly 190 Kms.
You may take a train from Bangalore up to Maddur or Mysore as the case may be and then go on road by own vehicle or by bus to B.R.Hills. Or go up to Nanjangud/Chamarajanagar by train from Mysore and thereafter take the road Private buses as well as Govt. buses both operate on this route.
People have to climb the steps to reach the temple from bus stop. Separate VIP road is available up to temple for vehicles bypassing these steps.
