The best way to reach Belur (and Halebid) is by road. A private taxi or your own car is the easiest and most convenient way to reach here and see around the place.

Belur is 40 kms from Hassan & 222 kms from Bangalore by road. This place is on the way to Mudigere & Chikamagalur and frequent buses are available. Other than this, there are alternate routes to reach here.

Reaching via Halebid

If you are planning to visit Halebid and Belur, you can proceed to Halebidu taking right turn at Hagare (25Kms from Hassan on Chikamagalur road). From Hagare, Halebid is 12 Kms. Those coming by private vehicles can use this route as traffic is less.

After visiting Halebid, you can reach Belur which is just 15 kms away. There are frequent private and public transport (KSRTC) buses available between Belur and Halebid.

Reaching via the Master Control Facility Road in Hassan

Another way to reach Belur is to travel up to Halebid from Hassan taking Master Control Facility (also called space city) Road. Halebid is 30 kms by this road from Hassan.

Regular bus services are available between Hassan and Halebid in this route. Nearest airport to Belur is Mangalore or Bangalore (Bengaluru) which is almost equidistant (about 200 Kms).

Regular tourist packages are operated by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporations (KSTDC) to visit Belur, Halebeedu and Shravanabelagola besides other places.

After visiting Belur and Halebeedu, you can proceed towards Chikmagalur if you plan to spend sometime on the lap of the Western Ghats and have a taste of its beautiful hill stations or if you plan to visit Shimoga, Jog Falls, Sringeri, Horanadu and Agumbe and other places towards the coastal belt.
