The 22-acre Pondicherry Botanical Garden, a green retreat, is quite a contrast from the hot and polluted roads in the rest of the town (Puducherry / Pondy).

Visiting a place that is definitely several degrees cooler than the rest of Pondicherry is a welcome proposition. Though located in the heart of the town, it is an island of peace and quiet. 

Relax with family or friends. Take a nap, stroll about, listen to the birds (a rare thing in Pondicherry), enjoy the cool breeze and learn a thing or two about the trees and plants.

It is the only botanical garden of its kind on the east coast of India. And it contains a mix of species from all over the country, both endangered and otherwise. 

At present, the authorities are in the process of renovating and conserving the garden which involves adding new attractions such as children parks, herbal garden, a meditation centre, an aquatic garden and a rock garden with a variety of cacti. 

During February every year, there is a flower show for 3 days where farmers also display their agro-products.
