Ponda city is located in Central Goa and belongs to North Goa district. It is located about 28km south-east of Panaji, the capital of Goa state and 17km north-east of Margao and is also the capital of Ponda Taluka.
Ponda is well connected by road to the Panaji and main railway junction of Madgaon (Margao).
Ponda has Goa's main wildlife sanctuaries of Bondla and the Bhagawan Mahaveer Wildlife sanctuary. The Doodhsagar waterfall is also located in this city.
Being a predominant Hindu town in Goa, it has many temples such as the famous Mangueshi temple, the Nageshi temple, the Shanta durga temple to name a few. Safa Masjid, a mosque built by the Bijapuri ruler Ibrahim Adil Shah is there.
