The Nimishamba Temple is on the banks of river Kaveri, about 2 kms from Srirangapatna on the road leading to Sangam. Nimishamba is considered as the incarnation of Parvati, the goddess wife of Lord Shiva.
This Hindu holy spot was believed to have been established by a king called as Muktharaja who had inscribed the 'Shri Chakra' on a stone and then went into penance. This stone still exists and is is being kept in front of the deity. This was installed at the time of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar about 300-400 years back.
Nimishamba temple gets its name as the popular belief is that the residing Goddess is supposed to cure people's problems within a minute. Nimisha - minute and Amba - Goddess.
There is a temple fair on “Vasavamba Jayanthi”, which is also known as “Nimishamba Jayanthi”. On every full moon day there will be special poojas. Everyday from morning 6 until evening 8.30, one can have the “darshan” of the goddess.
