Minicoy is separated from the main group of islands and is therefore isolated. It lies about 200 kms south of the northern group (Kavaratti Island). It is 10.6 kms long and is the second largest island after Andrott. It is very close to the Island of Thuraakunu belonging to the island nation of Maldives. The Indian Government has prohibited contact between these two islands.
Light House at Minicoy IslandMinicoy has one of the largest lagoons with a small uninhabited islet Viringili on its southern side. A large lighthouse, built by the British in the 1800s stands on the island. If you go on top of the lighthouse you can get a panoramic view of the beach and the surrounding islands.

Samir, I am from India
By peter (not verified)Samir,
I am from India mainland-Kerala. frequent visitor to the islands on business.
Minicoy is beautiful and cleaner than any other islands of the Lakshadweep, and the visitors say it has great resemble to Maldives!
Due to certain restrictions after ther 1956 treaty, you need to apply through the High commissioner of India in Maldives for a visit and stay in Minicoy. High commissioner have to inform the Administrator of Lakshadeep about the visit!
Even for mainlanders like me, we need permit for the visits to any of the islands, issued by the Administrator on verification of the Photo sticked application.
After the permission, come to Kochi by flight, board any of the vessels from the Kochi Port. It takes approx 20 hours of sailing from Kochi. You can check the schedule and availability of the tickets on line at. I know Minicoy is very near to you by sea, but embarkation is not permitted.
Need any help, feel free to ask....
Welcome to India
Peter
