Kumta is a small beach town, located about 60 Kms from Karwar in Uttara Kannada (North Canara) district in Karnataka. It is known for its betelnut, cashew, coconut, banana cultivation and fisheries.
Kumta has around 4 beaches: Kumta beach, Dhareshwar beach, Baada beach and Mirjan Fort. You can take auto-rickshaws from Kumta town to reach these beaches.

There are many tourist places nearby the coastal town of Kumta. Gokarna, famous for it’s beach (originally famous for the temple), is just 20 km. Jog Falls, tallest waterfall of India, and is 70 km.

Other tourist spots nearby are Murudeshwara (50 km), Yana (20 km) and Idagunji (Ganapathi temple).
