There is a beautifully laid out ornamental garden attached to the dam, called Brindavan Gardens, making it a popular tourist place and picnic location. The dam was built by the world famous Sir M.V.Vishweshwaraiah.
The Dam acts as a reservoir for supplying water to the districts of Mandya and Mysore to the cities as well as the agricultural lands in this region.
The dam is named for the then ruler of the Mysore Kingdom, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. It is 3 kms long and is located at the confluence of the three rivers- Kaveri, Hemavati and Lakshmanathirtha.
The Blue Lagoon Islands at the backwaters of the KRS Dam
Tucked away about 4 Kms from KRS Dam is a not-so-popular spot called the Blue Lagoons Island.
This Island is formed by the backwaters of the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam and is a perfect picnic spot. Not known to many tourists, this place has remained largely unknown to those outside to Mysore and surrounding areas.
The water here is stationary and you can play or siwn in it for hours. You can catch an Auto to reach this Island.
The Brindavan Gardens is a garden located in the state of Karnataka in India. It lies adjoining the Krishnarajasagara dam which is built across the river Kaveri. The work on laying out this garden was started in the year 1927 and completed in 1932. Visited by close to 2 million tourists per year, the garden is one of the major attractions near the city of Mysore.
