Kemmangundi

Kemmangundi is a popular weekend getaway spot to many, from Bangalore. Kemmangundi is located 55 kms north of Chikmagalur District, in South-Central Karnataka. This is a beautiful and picturesque hill station, situated on the Baba Budan range at a height of 1434 mts. 

How to reach Kemmangundi

By Road: Kemmangundi is about 53 km by road from Chikamagalur Town. From the Bangalore (Bengaluru), one can try the following routes to reach Kemmangundi.

• National Highway NH-206 till Tarikere and then taking a deviation to Kemmangundi via Lingadahalli (270 km)
• National Highway NH-206 till Kadur and then taking a deviation to Chikamagalur and from there to Kemmangundi (300 km)
• National Highway NH-48 till Hassan and then take the Hassan - Belur - Chikamagalur - Kemmangundi Road (330 km)

Each one of the above routes offers you a scenic drive through the mountain roads of Chikamagalur and therefore highly recommended.

By Train: Nearest Railway Station is Tarikere (35 km. away)

By Air: Nearest Airport is Mangalore (190 km. away). Alternatively, the airport at Bangalore (Bengaluru) can be used.

KemmangundiAround 8 kms from Kemmangundi are the Hebbe Falls where the water gushes down from a height of 168 m in two stages. The Kalhatti Falls are 10 Kms from Kemmangundi. The water here cascades down a height of 122 m. There is also a local temple here, constructed in a gap between two rocks.

This was the summer retreat of Raja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and as a mark of respect to the king, it is also known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station.

Surrounded by the Baba Budangiri Range and blessed with cascading mountain streams, and lush vegetation in the vicinity, Kemmangundi beautifully laid-out ornamental gardens and enchanting mountains and valleys views are a treat to the eye.

The spectacular sunset view from the Raj Bhavan is a photographer's delight. For those adventurous souls, Kemmangundi offers many peaks to scale and intricate jungle paths to explore.
