About Hubli-Dharwad

The twin cities of Hubli and Dharwad are 13 miles (21 km) apart and belong to Dharwad district in Karnataka, India. The city of Hubli is located at a distance of around 430 kms from Bangalore.

Dharwad is the administrative capital of the Dharwad district and Hubli serves as the commercial center. Hubli hosts one of the largest Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee, (APMC) yard, in Karnataka state.

Hubli is also a trading and transportation center, with cotton and silk factories, railway workshops, and a major newspaper industry.

Hubli was renamed as Hubballi (creeper of flowers in Kannada) along with several other cities in Karnataka) 

Climate

The climate is hot and wet during the summer and rainy seasons and pleasant during winter. Best time to visit is between August and March

History

Hubli was built around an 11th century. Dharwad developed up around a fort thought to have been built in 1405 by an officer of the Hindu king of Vijayanagar. It was captured by the Muslims in 1685 and by the Marathas in 1753. Hyder Ali, ruler of Mysore, occupied Dharwad in 1778. It was ceded to the British in 1818. There are many colleges in the metropolitan area, making it an education center for South India. 

How to reach Hubli 

Hublis is a major railway junction in North Karnataka. Many of the trains connecting South Indian destinations to Western India (Mumbai, Goa etc) and Northern Indian destinatios pass through Hubli. It is also well connected by road to Bangalore and other destinations in the region. Hubli is about 450 Kms from Bangalore.
