Historical Places in Karnataka

Karnataka's history goes back thousands of years. Many kingdoms and dynasties have fought over Karnataka and had established their presence here. It is no wonder that there are many historical destinations in Karnataka. Along the way, they also built beautiful temples, magnificent mosques, exquisite churches, Jain Basadis and Buddhist Shrines.

Belur and Halebid are prime destinations for intricate architecture on stones with their star -shaped temples.

Banavasi is the second oldest town in India while Hampi's ruined remains of the Vijayanagar kingdom showcase history and art seen nowhere in India.

The towns of Bijapur, Bidar and Belgaum have mosques and mausoleums built by the Bahamani kingdoms and the Deccan Sultanate. Srirangapatna and Mysore were ruled by Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan and the Wodeyars which saw many palaces and monuments built during their rule.
