Hassan is a district in Karnataka state, India. The Hoysala kingdom had Belur taluk and Halebid taluks in Hassan, as thier capitals between the 10th and 13th Century AD.

Hassan, today, is known for its Hoysala temples at Belur  & Halebidu and the Jain pigrimage centre at Sravanabelagola. Hassan also is the main control center of India's premier space center, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).

History of Hassan 

Historically, the name Hassan was derived from Simhasanapura, later it became Hassan. There is a temple in the heart of the city of Goddess Hasanamba.

This temple is opened only once in a year for a period of one week. It is believed that the name of this town is derived from the  after the Goddess. The place was founded by a Chola officer called Bukkanna Nayaka during 11th Century.

Location and How to reach Hassan 

Hassan is about 190Kms to the west of Bangalore (Bengaluru). National Highway NH 48 connects Hassan and Bangalore (Bengaluru).

This highway runs from Bangalore (Bengaluru) to Mangalore. It is also well connected by road and rail to Bangalore, Mangalore and Mysore.
