Food specialties in Hubli-Dharwad

Dharwad is mainly known for the Dharwad Peda sweet that is popular in this region. You must also try the complete North Karnataka meal with the Jolada Roti (Jowar Roti or bread) along with other curries and chutneys of this region. Other sweets inlcude Kunda and Karadantu that come from neighboring towns. 

Dharwad Peda 

Dharwad Peda is a sweet made out of Milk, Sugar coating and Khoa.  You can Dharwad  Peda in Sweet Shops all around Hubli-Dharwad. Do taste and buy this unique sweet which has made Dharwad popular in Karnataka.

Though Dharwad Peda is available in Bangalore and other cities, the taste fof the ones you get in Dharwad is simply the best. Other Sweets that are famous in this region are the Kunda (from Belgaum) which is made from Khoa and Karadantu, which is made from a mixture of dryfruits, sugar and edible gum. Though this is from neigboring Gokak, it is famous in the Hubli-Dharwad region as well.  

Jolada Rotti Oota

Jolada (Jowar or Corn Flour) Roti (Indian Bread) is the staple meal in Hubli-Dharwad and many other cities in North Karnataka.

The menu usually consists of the Jolada Rotti, Fenugreek Leaves, Papad, a vegetable curry, any one type of chutney, pickle and raita. However this may vary from region to region in North Karnataka, but Jolada Rotti remains the main item in this thali (menu).

There are numerous Khanavalis (restaurants) in and around these towns and in other cities in the region. Here you can order entire meals of North Karnataka and also try other local food specialties.
