Car Nicobar with an expanse of around 127 square kilometers, is the headquarters of Nicobar District. You need to spend on a 16 hour journey from Port Blair to reach this place. It is a fertile island which is flat and covered with cluster of coconut palms.
The 2004 Tsunami of the Indian Ocean is said to have destroyed most of the huts of this place.
It has enchanting beaches with a majestic sea all around. The Nicobari huts, built on stilts having entrance through floor with a wooden, ladder, are unique to this island.
Big Lapati, a village in this island is the parent village from where Nicobarese tribal people grew and spread themselves out. The religion of most of the Nicobarese is Christianity.
Enquire with the tourism office in Port Blair for the latest on the tourism scen in Car Nicobar. Less tourists visit here and transport and accommodation might be a problem.
