A little history

It was later captured by the ruler of Karnataka, Hyder Ali. He later gave this region away to the Portuguese when they set up their camp in Goa. It was later merged into the state of Goa in the late 1700s.

What's special in Canacona?

Canacona became famous as a tourist hotspot in the 1990s with Palolem beach, Agona beach and Canacona beach becoming popular with the foreign visitors frequenting Goa.

There are however, more than 20 hidden beaches in this region which are supposed to be virtually uninhabited and not known to many visitors. The Cotigao wildlife Sanctuary is also situated here.
