The diversity of fauna includes Tiger, Panther, Wolf, Wild Dog, Hyena, Sloth Bear, Gaur, Black Buck, Chinkara, Chowsingha, Nilgai, Cheetal, Sambar and a number of birds and reptiles.
The long sea coast provides the nesting ground for sea turtles, the backwaters of Pulicat lake are the feeding grounds for Flamingo & Grey Pelican, the estuaries of river Godavari and Krishna support rich mangrove forests with Fishing Cat and Otters.
Similarly the double banded or the Jerdon's Courser, the Golden Gecko, and the Slender Loris which is rare and endangered are common to the State.
Andhra Pradesh State is bestowed with two powerful river systems of Krishna and Godavari. The State has wide and varied vegetation types enriched by a variety of flora and fauna.
Andhra Pradesh being located strategically in the Deccan, the region has perfect presence of flora and fauna. The variety in its geographical layout, the State is endowed with a spectrum of plants and animals. The forest in the state can broadly be divided into four major kinds: Deccan Plateau; Central Plateau; Eastern Highland; and East Coastal Plains.
The vegetation found in the state is largely of dry deciduous type. The hills of Eastern Ghats add greatly to the bio-diversity like the Western Ghats and provide sustenance to many species of plants, birds and lesser forms of animal life.
Andhra Pradesh has a wide variety of wildlife and natural beauty. As one travels in the state, one can find diverse landscapes-from a lush coastal area to a dry deciduous forest to a mangrove belt.
The state is home to India's largest tiger reserve, in the Nallamai forest. The Godavari river delta is famous for reptiles like the salt water crocodile, fishing cats and other exotic animals. India's largest pelican refuge at Kolleru Lake, which is also a haven for migrating birds, is an important tourist site.
